Refuge Recovery Treatment Centers programs provides a framework grounded in practical Buddhist ethics and established psychology that incorporates mind, body, spirituality, and family. By addressing the underlying causes around addiction, our therapists can better equip clients with the tools that empower them and promote long-term recovery.

Refuge Recovery Treatment Centers uses the philosophy of the Buddhist path to help clients focus on their direct experience of the present moment, including the pleasant and unpleasant thoughts, sensations, perceptions and emotions that arise.

In this way, the practice of mindfulness can be used as a roadmap for the individual to explore the inner workings of their own minds.

This process of identifying thoughts, feelings, and emotions that arise in reaction to situations is accepted as a key component to relapse prevention techniques.

At Refuge Recovery Treatment Centers, we view addiction as an attachment disturbance. It is our understanding that all people need stable relationships with others to maintain balance and regulate emotions. If there is a lack of support and stability in relationships, people will inevitably turn to other methods of emotional regulation and self-soothing behaviors such as substances.

Ultimately, clients are prompted to analyze the current relationships in their lives to gauge stability and understand what steps to take in order to achieve the emotional regulation they desire.

We are a trauma-focused care facility that utilizes scientifically supported  treatments to address underlying trauma. All of the therapists at Refuge Recovery Treatment Centers are trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) specialists, and use a wide variety of evidence based treatment modalities to assist clients with the reprocessing of traumatic memories, as well as dealing with the emotions that may surface when encountering present-day stress.

The World Health Organization, US Department of Defense and the American Psychiatric Association recognize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) as a front-line treatment for trauma and distress caused by traumatic memories.
